Take home Old Vine Zin straight from the barrel

Saturday, July 19th, 2014 | Posted by

JRickardsbarrelJ. Rickards Winery is hosting its annual “Jug July” celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at 24505 Chianti Road.

Proprietor Jim Rickards and Winemaker Blaine Brazil will fill jugs of 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel right from the barrel for guests to take home. Jugs will be available in half-gallon sizes for $45 and 750ml for $22.

This is a rare opportunity to sample and buy directly from the barrel and, at the same time, save big on one of the winery’s most celebrated estate varietals.

Round out the day with a plate of slow-roasted pulled pork right off the grill, basted with Dry Creek Peach BBQ Sauce and served with peach fennel slaw for  $10. Wine can also be purchased for $5 per glass.

Live music will be provided by John Youngblood and his band, playing an eclectic mix of Bluegrass and Swing.

To RSVP or for more information, contact Lynn at 758-3441 or Lynn@jrwinery.com. Event is limited to 100 guests.

The J. Rickards Estate Old Vine Zinfandel Vineyard was planted in 1908 by the Brignole family and was the only block of vineyard on the 60-acre property when Jim Rickards purchased the land in 1976. It is the winery’s flagship estate varietal. Today, J. Rickards Winery has 45 acres planted to wine grapes, predominantly growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Malbec.
