Friday Night Live welcomes Tab Benoit
Friday Night Live, Cloverdale’s free outdoor summer concert series, continues the 2014 season this Friday, August 1, with Tab Benoit, a Cajun man who has definitely got the blues.
The Houma, Louisiana native has been a guitar player since his teenage years when he hung out at the Blues Box, a ramshackle music club and cultural center in nearby Baton Rouge run by guitarist Tabby Thomas.
The nightly impromptu gigs of playing guitar alongside Thomas and other high-profile regulars at the club, were enough to inspire Benoit to assemble his own band – a stripped down bass-and-drums unit propelled by his solid guitar skills and leathery, Cajun-spiced vocal attack. He took his show on the road in the early ‘90s and hasn’t stopped since.
Benoit was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2010 and named Blues Music Awards Contemporary Blues Male Artist two years in a row. He is also a two time winner of the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year award, described as “the highest accolade afforded musicians and songwriters in Blues music.”
Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. in the 100 block of N. Cloverdale Blvd. with the Certified Farmers Market, which also offers a variety of craft vendors and food booths. Craft beer, local wines and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase during the evening. Local restaurants are open for early bird and late night specials. Music begins on the Plaza stage at 6:30 p.m.
Friday Night Live is produced by the Cloverdale Arts Alliance. Visit them online or call 894-4410 for more information.
