Cloverdale sculpture gets “yarn bombed”

Yarnbombing

“The Listener” by artist m. c. Carolyn is part of the Sculpture Trail Project and has been a continual source of controversy and conversation around Cloverdale since her arrival.

First it was planking. Now, it appears “yarn bombing” has come to Cloverdale.

The controversial big green sculpture on the corner of N. Cloverdale Blvd. and W. Second Street has been yarn bombed with a colorful skirt made with strands of blue and purple yarn.

Yarn bombing is a type of crochet and knit graffiti in which random objects around a community are decorated with yarn – everything from telephone poles to chain link fences, bicycles, and, yes, even statues.

There’s a website devoted to it, as well as a book written by Mandy Moore and Leanne Prain entitled Yarn Bombing: The Art of Crochet and Knit Graffiti.

Reaction has been mixed, but overall, people seem to like The Green Lady’s new look. What do you think?

She’s adorable no matter what clothing she chooses to wear, including her birthday suit!

  2. Jennifer Wilson

My daughter who is 3 yrs of age said mom look she has a tutu on!

  3. I have said from her 1st appearance in town, that she is not naked, she is wearing a green body suit and is looking to the sky for answers. As far as the yarn bombing, I hope they bought the yarn at our local yarn store.

  4. I like the yarn. It leaves more to the imagination which, of course, is always sexier. :)

  5. Went downtown to see her yesterday but the yarn was gone. Bad choice, it was pretty festive. I hope whoever removed it considers putting it back.
