Art appreciation class offered

Tuesday, January 1st, 2013 | Posted by

The Cloverdale Arts Alliance continues their DISCOVERING ART series, titled “How to Appreciate Great Art” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2 at the Cloverdale Center for the Arts, 105 E. First St.

The program teaches the specific visual and interpretive skills needed to approach great artworks, finding their deeper meanings and reaching new levels of appreciation. Participants will learn the core elements of the artists’ visual language and apply this technical knowledge to major art works in major genres of drawing, printmaking, sculpture and painting from the major eras and movements in Western art, from the Renaissance to the present.

This week’s topics will be “Abstraction and Modernism” and “Surreal,” with each of the two DVD sessions presented by a prominent art historian. A short informal discussion will follow each.

DISCOVERING ART is meant for a wide audience, from those who are discovering art for the first time to those who have experienced art their entire lives and realize that it is a journey of constant discovery.

Cost is $3 for CAA members, $5 for non-members. Seating is limited to first 40 participants. 894-4410.
