Just in time for the holidays, a new contemporary art gallery is opening in downtown Cloverdale with a Merchant Open House and Party from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.

Everyone is invited and there will be refreshments, as well as discounts, door prizes and gifts, for all who attend

The Artful Eye features a mix of unique artisan jewelry, fine contemporary crafts, fine art, handcrafted gifts and assorted quirky items with pleasing price tags, many of which are one-of-a-kind.

The gallery is a collaboration of three artists whose works will also be on display. Marsha Evans, a prominent Cloverdale artisan, has teamed up with Patricia Callegari, formerly artist/owner of Connextions Gallery in Healdsburg, and Brig Bianchi, formerly artist/owner of Bianchi Gallery in Santa Fe.

Works by locally and internationally recognized artists will be showcased, however, the partners are dedicated to promoting emerging and mid-career artists with an emphasis on local and regional talent. December’s featured artist will be world famous mime and talented metal artist, Robert Shields.

Evans says people ask her if they are opening a gallery because business is good. “We all know how business has been,” she says, “but we are opening to position ourselves for the future because we believe Cloverdale will grow and prosper.”

Callegari says: “As well as being a beautiful showcase, the gallery will be good for the town and we expect it will bring more tourists to the area. We are in this for the long term and hope that the gallery can truly flourish as a dedicated art venue.”

The Artful Eye is not a co-op and operates on the principal that artists should not be required to pay a monthly fee to show in a gallery. All of the artwork within the two spacious gallery rooms is on consignment.

To further serve the community, the gallery’s future plans include offering full service jewelry repairs and jewelry redesigning.

The Artful Eye is located at 210 N. Cloverdale Blvd. Holiday hours through the end of the year are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. For more information, call 894-7449 or visit them online at artfuleye.weebly.com.
