Josh is going to Disneyland
2011 was a tumultuous year for 5-year old Josh Durant and his family, but the New Year is beginning on a much brighter note. They’re going to Disneyland!
Thanks to the folks at the Make a Wish Foundation, Josh, his parents Beth and Jake, and his sisters, 12-year old Ashley, 9-year old Krystal, and 2-year old Samantha will be visiting Disneyland from February 9 to 14. They also have a day set aside to visit Knott’s Berry Farm.
Josh is especially looking forward to meeting two of his favorite Disney characters, Buzz Lightyear and Lightning McQueen.
In the Fall of 2010, the Durants noticed that their then-three year old son Josh’s scrotum was swollen. During surgery to remove what they thought was a hernia, doctors discovered one of his testicles was filled with a large tumor. Pathology identified it as Yolk Sac Carcinoma. More tests revealed the cancer had spread to his abdomen and chest.
At its worst, Josh’s tumor markers were over 100,000. His last set of scans show them down to what his mom calls an amazing 1.9, the lowest they have been since all of this began over a year ago.
“After three surgeries, four bone scans and six rounds of in-patient chemo at UC San Francisco this year, we are so looking forward to starting fresh in 2012,” says Beth.
